Uzbekistan		Suzani / Dowry Embroidery Nurata/ Shakhrisyabz Silk on cotton with bokhara couching, and tambour stitches. Date - 1840s. Although more typical of a style of embroidery from Nurata, the quality of the silk and dyes, including murex,( see glossary) and the superb borders could indicate that this is from Shakhrisyabz. A similar piece with Shakhrisyabz provenance is shown within “Vok Collection: Suzani.” Vok, Ignazio, Munich, 1994, pp. 19/20. Measurement: 90cm x 241 cm. Provenance - The Sir Emery Walker Collection.
